Journey

These works comprise a series of fourteen tapestries titled "Journey" that chart a trip I made by road from Port Augusta to Alice Springs, and the subsequent flight back home. On my return to Melbourne, I looked through the fleeting photos taken on the road out of the car window and the aerial photos taken from the ‘plane, and was interested to observe the correlation between both sets of images I had captured. I was inspired to juxtapose them to recreate the visual journey, alive to the sensations of colour, texture and atmosphere they provoke. The gift of time during lockdown in Melbourne meant that I could work in my studio at home every day with no interruptions, and it seemed right and somewhat poignant to engage with the experience of travel whilst unable to move very far out of my house.
